Founder Lindsay van der Looij On How She Manages It All

LINDSAY VAN DER LOOIJ On How She Manages It All
“Giving new meaning to multitasking.”
We all have the same number of hours in the day as Lindsay van der Looij, but it’s safe to say she’s making the most of her time. We wanted to know how she’s able to do it all, so we reached out to celebrity skin expert, entrepreneur, and founder of LABAREAU and BLOY Institute to find out how she manages each role in the span of 24 hours. With a beauty empire under her belt, she proves determination and hard work have big payoffs.
What does your morning look like, and how do you prioritize what you're going to work on each day?
Lindsay: On a general day, I wake up at 6:45 a.m. for my workout at 8 a.m. After that, I start off with a celery juice to detox my body. My early mornings are spent answering texts and emails. I usually head out the door no later than 9.00 a.m. On my way to the office, I do my morning check-in with my team over the phone to go over anything that needs my feedback or approval, and my work day goes on from there. A lot of my day is usually spent in meetings, shooting content, or on the go visiting suppliers. There’s really no such thing as an average day.
Do you have any organizational methods that you swear by?
Lindsay: Everything is super organized in my house—micromanaged to the minute. I will lay my clothes out the night before so when I wake up, I’ll have my outfit and my skincare all ready to go. Luckily, everything I do is pretty close by in Amsterdam. I try to keep everything as local as possible and make sure that I spend enough time doing the things that I really want to do and work as efficiently as possible. As I tend to travel often for work, I like to keep a steady routine when I’m at home in Amsterdam.

Do you ever find yourself stressed? And if so, how do you get yourself out of a funk?
Lindsay: There are definitely times when I feel stressed, that’s a part of being an entrepreneur. But honestly, I’m kind of the opposite … I like to be on my toes. I like a challenge, and I find myself to be thrive in chaos. This year I was definitely tested, maybe the most I’ve ever been, taking on all of these responsibilities. I started to build my brand LABAREAU while the economy was still recovering from the pandemic, and alongside that I was running my skin clinic amidst the growing competition. Coming out on the other side though, and knowing I can do it, is always an amazing feeling. I think people would be surprised to know that even though I’m always very busy with 100 things going on at once, things are incredibly calm and under control most days. This last year, I've discovered meditation, which has helped me stay mindful in stressful times.
What's your best advice for people who would like to pursue a similar career as yours?
Lindsay: Always carry with you the mindset that no job is too small, no matter your job title or how much you think you know. You cannot be successful alone, so become really good at collaborating and communicating well with others. Own your mistakes because you will make them, so try to learn from them. Be open to receiving honest feedback, even if it's negative.
What other projects are you working on and what can we expect from you in the future?
Lindsay: We have really exciting new launches in the pipeline and I will be the one to share the details when the time comes.
